  • Repeat copyright violations result in account termination.

  • Fair use and legitimate criticism are protected.

Copyright Protection for Creators

Your Rights as a Creator

When you upload original Rive animations, you automatically own:

  • Copyright to your creative work

  • Right to license your content to buyers

  • Right to sell on multiple platforms (unless you choose exclusivity)

  • Protection against theft through our takedown procedures

What Copyright Covers

Your Rive animations are protected if they contain:

  • Original artistic expression and design choices

  • Unique character movements and interactions

  • Creative user interface elements

  • Original illustrations or graphics incorporated into animations

What Copyright Doesn't Cover

Copyright protection does not extend to:

  • Basic geometric shapes or simple movements

  • Common UI patterns (e.g., buttons, spinners)

  • Ideas or concepts (only the specific execution is protected)

  • Content that mimics existing copyrighted works

Respecting Others' Rights

Before You Upload

Always verify that your content:

  • Is your original work or properly licensed

  • Doesn’t copy or closely imitate existing animations

  • Doesn’t include third-party logos, characters, or brands

  • Doesn’t use copyrighted music, sounds, or audio

Acceptable Third-Party Content

You may include:

  • Royalty-free assets from legitimate stock libraries

  • Creative Commons licensed content (used with proper attribution)

  • Your own previous work from other platforms

  • Licensed content with permission to sublicense

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don’t upload animations that:

  • Recreate well-known characters or scenes

  • Use Disney, Marvel, Nintendo, etc.

  • Copy other creators’ work

  • Include brand logos without permission

  • Feature copyrighted text or quotes

DMCA Takedown Process

How Copyright Protection Works

Rillic complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA):

  • Copyright owners can request removal

  • Clear violations are removed within 4 hours

  • Creators can file a counter-notice

  • Repeat offenders lose their accounts

If Someone Reports Your Content

You’ll receive an email with:

  • A copy of the takedown notice

  • Explanation of the complaint

  • Instructions for submitting a counter-notice

  • A response deadline (usually 10–14 days)

Your options:

  • Accept the removal

  • Submit a counter-notice

  • Contact the complainant directly

  • Seek legal advice if needed

Counter-Notice Process

To dispute a takedown:

  • Provide your contact info and electronic signature

  • Identify the removed content and previous location

  • State under penalty of perjury that it was a mistake

  • Consent to jurisdiction of a federal court

Next Steps:

  • We forward your notice to the complainant

  • They have 10–14 days to file a lawsuit

  • If no suit is filed, we restore the content

  • If a suit is filed, content stays removed until resolved

Filing Copyright Complaints

Trademark Protection

Respecting Trademarks

Do not use others' trademarks:

  • Brand names in your file names or titles

  • Company logos or visuals

  • Product names that create confusion

  • Trademarked characters or mascots

Exceptions (Fair Use)

Trademark use may be allowed for:

  • Descriptive use ("animations for mobile apps")

  • Comparative use ("similar to XYZ")

  • Commentary and critique (as long as you don’t use logos or content directly)

Platform Trademarks

When using Rillic or Rive:

  • “Rive” can be used descriptively (not as endorsement)

  • Don’t claim affiliation with Rive Inc. unless approved

  • “Rillic” can be mentioned as the sales platform

  • Don’t use Rillic logos in your content

Content Authenticity

Proving Ownership

Keep proof you made your content:

  • Original source/project files

  • Time-stamped files or saved versions

  • Screenshots or video of the creation process

  • Sketches, notes, or drafts

Content Fingerprinting

Rillic automatically:

  • Digitally fingerprints uploads

  • Saves creator/upload metadata

  • Detects duplicate or near-duplicate content

  • Uses this to resolve ownership disputes

Reporting Stolen Content

If your work appears elsewhere without permission:

  • Contact that platform’s copyright team

  • File a DMCA notice

  • Notify dmca@rillic.com

  • Consider legal steps for commercial-scale infringement
